REVIEW: Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette

I watched Hannah Renee’s YouTube video where she reviewed some drugstore products, and this was the eyeshadow palette she used. Hannah created a beautiful burgundy eyeshadow look and I just had to purchase the palette. Not like I have enough burgundy palettes. So in today’s post I’m going to be sharing with you my review of this palette and a few eyeshadow looks I’ve created, enjoy!

This stunning burgundy palette comes with 12 shades, 10 shimmers and 2 mattes. It retails at £11.99 in Superdrug, view it here.

The Burgundy Eye Shadow Palette features 12 expertly curated shades for custom eye makeup looks.
1 Palette, Infinite Burgundy Nude Looks.

The Shades

First Row:

  1. Light pink champagne. A nice shimmery shade for an inner corner highlight
  2. Shimmery brown. Good for a brown smokey eye.
  3. Deep purple toned brown. Again, good for a brown smokey eye.
  4. A classic gold. Beautiful for a pop of shimmer on the lid.
  5. Champagne gold. Lovely shimmer for the lid or inner corner / brow bone highlight
  6. Matte light brown. A nice initial transition shade.

Second Row:

  1. Light gold. Perfect shade for the lid.
  2. A shimmery burgundy. My fave shade, such a beautiful colour for the lid 😍
  3. Deep bronze. Again, beautiful for the lid.
  4. Bronze / gold. Beautiful for a pop of shimmer on the lid.
  5. Brown / burgundy / brown. Can you tell I’m terrible at describing shades?
  6. A matte dark brown. Perfect to deepen the outer corner and crease.

My Thoughts

Looking at the eyeshadow palette is so pleasing to the eye, the shade range is beautiful and I’m in love with each shade. You’ve got every lid shade possible in this palette, ranging from a light champagne to deep burgundy shades. Burgundy / red tones have to be my favourite tones on my eyes, so this palette is right up my street. It reminds me a lot of the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette.

The only downside to this palette is the ratio between matte shades and shimmer shades. There are only 2 matte shades and that isn’t enough for a burgundy eye look. The matte shades provided are good, but you need more. I find the matte shades from my Modern Renaissance do the job perfectly as they match the shimmers in the Burgundy Bar.

The pigment in this shades are unreal. As you can see from the swatches, they are so pigmented. For a drugstore palette, this is so good because some high end palettes aren’t even this pigmented.

With some shimmer shades they look pretty in the palette and swatched, but they don’t pay off on the eye. These are a different story, they are so pigmented swatched and when applied on the lid, they really pop. Also they aren’t chunky at all, some glitter shades can be very chunky but these ones aren’t at all. The shimmer in them really stands out, it isn’t flat looking on the lid.

Anastasia Beverly Hills vs Drugstore Brow Products

Recently I’ve been venturing out a bit with what brow products I use, and I’ve discovered some gems in the drugstore which are a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow products. So if you want to find out some dupes for a well known high end brand, carry on reading!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but ever since Beauty Bay and Cult Beauty got more stock of ABH, their prices have gone up, especially the brow products. The dip brow pomade retails at £19 and the brow wiz retails at £22. They used to be around £15, so they’ve increased quite a bit.

I needed a new dip brow and brow wiz, but I wasn’t paying those prices. So I was having a little look in Superdrug for a brow pomade, I had a look at the L’oreal one, the Freedom one and an elf one. The L’oreal one didn’t appeal to me, and a girl I work with said her Freedom pomade dried up so quickly, so that was a no. I went for the elf brow cream and gave it a whirl.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade vs elf Brow Cream

My dipbrow pomade was starting to dry up, to the point where I need to spray Fix + in it every time I use it, which is annoying. The elf brow cream is honestly the closest dupe I’ve ever came across. I have the shade espresso which is very similar to ABH dark brown. The formula is more creamy, which is a good thing as it won’t dry out at quick.  It’s super easy to work with, the product just glides on and it’s so easy to achieve the perfect brow.

As you can see, there’s no difference whatsoever. The only difference is the price, the dipbrow is £19 and the elf brow cream is £5. Bit of a difference huh? I love using the elf brow cream when I’m going out as it gives me a nice ‘insta brow’ without having to spend half hour on them.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz vs Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil

My brow wiz run out on me a few weeks ago, and I wasn’t paying £22 for a new one. I’ve owned the archery brow pencil before and I loved it, so I knew it was a dupe for the ABH brow wiz. Off I went to Boots to purchase one, and it was only £8.50. Compared to £22 that’s so good!

The archery brow pencil is the exact same as the brow wiz, it does the same job and they basically have the same packaging. It comes with a spoolie one end and the pencil the other. The nib is so small it’s perfect for drawing hairs on, I use this for the front of my brows to feather them up and make them look a bit more natural.

The Products in Action

LEFT: ABH dipbrow pomade & brow wiz. RIGHT: elf brow cream & Soap and Glory archery brow.

Overall Thoughts

The brow cream and dip brow pomade are exactly the same, they give the same brow, a dark and nicely carved brow. If you’re looking for a brow pomade but don’t want to pay a lot, check out the elf brow cream in your local Superdrug!

And again, the 2 brow pencils are identical. They do the exact same job, but the Soap and Glory one is a fraction of the price. The only difference is the shade range, obviously Anastasia has more shades whereas the S & G one hasn’t. This is the same as the elf brow cream, they only have 3 shades whereas the ABH dipbrow has a massive shade range.

That’s everything for this post! I hope you enjoyed reading, see you soon 😘

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick Set

A few weeks ago when I visited Brighton, we done quite a bit of shopping. The Debenhams there is huuuge and the makeup section is massive, so it would have been rude not to buy something. I was looking around the Kat Von D makeup as I don’t own anything from that brand, and I came across a liquid lipstick set which has the most perfect shades so I had to buy it. So in today’s post I’m going to be reviewing the set and telling you about it!

A limited edition set of Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in 8 next-level neutral shades. Fall in love with an exclusive line-up of Kat Von D’s bestselling Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. This set of 8 mini shades is the ultimate collection of next-level neutrals for every mood, skin tone, and attitude. Discover a beautiful balance of divine nudes, rebellious statement shades, plus ”Madrid”, a new exclusive shade available only in this limited edition set. Mix & match to create one-of-a-kind combinations, or rock any shade on its own for velvety matte colour that won’t wear off.

Everlasting Liquid Lipstick’s breakthrough formula gives lips long-lasting wear and high-pigment colour. Its creamy, colour-rich formula glides over lips like a gloss but dries to a true matte finish that feels weightless all day long. It’s infused with natural comfort-enhancing ingredients, including vitamin E and sunflower seeds, so you can flaunt lasting matte colour that leaves your lips feeling comfortable.

The shades include:

  • MADRID (warm redwood) lipstick – 3ml (exclusive shade)
  • WITCHES (pitch black) lipstick – 3ml
  • DAMNED (black cherry) lipstick – 3ml
  • HAWKWIND (nude sienna) lipstick – 3ml
  • SANCTUARY (cool sepia) lipstick – 3ml
  • LUDWIG (tawny rose) lipstick – 3ml
  • LOVECRAFT (mauve pink nude) lipstick – 3ml
  • EXORCISM (ripe blackberry) lipstick – 3ml

Info taken from the Debenhams website.

My Thoughts

First of all, the colour range in this set is the best. It ranges from a pitch black to a stunning everyday nude. My favourite shades have to be Ludwig and Lovecraft, I mentioned them in my February favourites. Ludwig is an everyday nude which is very wearable and so comfortable to wear, and Lovecraft is a lovely muted pink but it isn’t too bright so again it’s good for everyday wear.

These little liquid lipsticks are so pigmented it’s scary. The black is literally pitch black, and the other shades are crazy pigmented too. Also, the longevity of these are unbelievable. I usually wear these to work and they last the whole day without having to reapply. The one problem I have with liquid lipsticks is I have very dry lips, but I have to say these ones don’t dry my lips out at all.

At £42 I don’t think this was bad at all, you get 8 mini liquid lipsticks and the actual product is amazing. Unfortunately it’s sold out on Debenhams, however it is still available on the actual Kat Von D website, view it here.

From left to right:

  • Ludwig
  • Lovecraft
  • Sanctuary
  • Hawkwind
  • Madrid
  • Exorcism
  • Damned
  • Witches

Overall thoughts

I’m definitely pleased with my purchase, I think this is such good quality for the price and I am in love with the product. I’d definitely buy more shades and other Kat Von D makeup!

That’s everything for this review! I hope you enjoyed reading, see you soon 😘

Have you tried the everlasting liquid lipsticks? What do you think?

The Sunshine Blogger Award #2

I’ve been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the lovely C.K Beauty, thank you for the nomination! Check out her posts, they are so good and I love her blog!

The Rules

1.) Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you and link back to their blog

2.) Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you

3.) Nominate 11 new blogs to receive this award, and write them 11 new questions

4.) List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog

My Questions

1. What is your favourite thing about blogging?

The interaction, being able to talk to other bloggers and find new people everyday who have the same hobby as me.

2. Favourite inspirational quote

‘Storms make trees take deeper roots.’ & ‘Be a flamingo in a world of pigeons.’

3. What made you start blogging?

I had 3 months off of school and work in the summer so I was very bored, which led me to starting this blog. I’ve had blogs in the past but it never took off so I wasn’t interested in it.

4. Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Bali. Every blogger has been there and it looks so beautiful.

5. Which bloggers inspire you the most?

I feel like Jamie Genevieve has inspired me a lot recently, makeup wise and blogging wise. She works so hard on her videos and her makeup always looks beaaautiful.

6. What are three of your favourite books?

Ooooh this is hard because I don’t read. Eeek. I do want to start reading more, any suggestions?

7. Are there any brands or charities that you would like to work with?

Good question! Charity wise, I’d love to work with animal shelters. I’d love to adopt all the dogs just to get them out of the shelters, but obviously that’s impossible 😂 all my dogs have been rescued, I believe why buy a puppy when there’s millions of dogs in shelters who need a home. Brands, any makeup / skincare brand really, my passion is makeup so I’d happily work with any brand!

8. If you could only have one item of makeup for the rest of your life what would it be?

This is hard. It would definitely have to be an eyebrow product, probably my Benefit Browzings.

9. What’s your favourite movie?

I can’t just pick one, it’s got to be out of White Chicks, 21 Jump Street and Step Brothers. Oh and Wild Child.

10. What advice would you give to any new bloggers?

Keep going, don’t give up. When you first start it’s so daunting because you’re unsure on how everything works, and your views might not be high, but keep posting and interacting with other bloggers, it’ll all come together one day!

11. Where do you see yourself in ten years time?

Honestly I have no idea, I don’t even know what I want to do tomorrow. But probably living in my own place with my boyf with at least 5 dogs, and still working in Superdrug 😂

My Nominations:

Peculiar Blonde Girl

Tales of Belle

Blush Suede

Sayeedah Sparkles

Of Pixie Dust

My Questions for You:

  1. What inspired you to start your blog?
  2. Who’s your idol?
  3. What’s your favourite blog post of yours?

  11. If you had the chance to move to any country, where would it be?

That’s it for this post! Again, thank you C.K Beauty for nominating me, I really enjoy writing these posts! See you soon 😘

Rediscovering Products I Used to Love

Recently I’ve been going through my makeup collection and using products I used to love, and I’ve fallen back in love with them. So in today’s post I’m going to share with you the products and why I love them, enjoy reading 😋

L’oreal True Match Foundation

I used this a lot last year, then I ventured off of it and used other foundations. I’ve recently been using this a lot for work, and I’ve fallen back in love with it. I always recommend this foundation to customers at work, and they love it.

It’s a medium coverage, and can be built up to a fuller coverage without looking cakey. It’s one of those foundations that is your skin but better. The finish of it suits all skin tones, as I have oily skin I can easily powder my face, but if you have dry skin it’ll look super glowy and it doesn’t dry your skin out!

RCMA No Colour Powder

The only 2 powders I used to use were this one and the Laura Mercier powder, and I used to love this one. If you own it, you will know the packaging isn’t the best, but since I finished my Laura powder I put the RCMA powder into the empty pot and I’ve actually been using it a lot more because it’s so much easier to use!

This powder keeps my makeup in place all day and my undereyes do not crease. The only thing you have to be careful with is a white cast, if you leave it to bake too long you do get a little white cast, so I leave it for about 2 minutes then wipe it away.

Soap and Glory Solar Powder

I bought this ages ago and I used to use it allll the time, I feel like every YouTuber has raved about this at some point. At £11 it’s quite pricey for a drugstore bronzer, but it’s worth it! One side is dark and the other side is light, and the 2 shades mixed together give the most gorgeous natural bronze.

This bronzer is perfect for us pale gals, it’s not orange at all but not too cool toned, it just gives the perfect natural bronze to the face. This is perfect if you want to do a natural makeup look and not go too ham with the bronzer.

Soap and Glory Archery Brow Pencil

I used this years ago before I discovered ABH brow wiz, but since my brow wiz run out on me I repurchased this and honestly it’s exactly the same as the brow wiz. If you’re looking for a thin eyebrow pencil but can’t justify to spend an arm and leg, get down to your local Boots and get this! It’s only £8.50, which is so good compared to £22.

The brow pencil comes with a spoolie one end and the pencil the other end. The nib is so thin it’s perfect for the front of your brows, I have the shade brownie points which is a medium brown.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

If you read my blog when I first started posting, you will know I raved about this in every post I possibly could. After purchasing my Violet Voss holy grail palette this got pushed to the back of my drawer and it didn’t get used for a few months. I took it to Brighton, and it’s safe to say I’ve fallen back in love.

I feel like no other palette is better than my ABH Modern Renaissance. The shade range is beautiful, I actually use every single shade. They blend like an actual dream and not to mention, they are so pigmented.

MAC Lipsticks

I went through a stage of wanting all of the MAC lipsticks, I ended up with 10 before I converted to liquid lipsticks. However recently I’ve been wearing them and I’ve been loving them!

The shade range is amazing, and they have loads of different finishes. My favourites at the moment have to be whirl, mehr and taupe.

That’s everything for this post! I hope you enjoyed reading, see you soon 😘

REVIEW: Maybelline Superstay Foundation

I’ve been wanting to try this foundation for a while now, and I finally purchased it and tried it out. So in today’s post I thought I’d let you know my opinion on this foundation, enjoy!

SuperStay 24h full coverage foundation completely corrects visible flaws and imperfections making it the perfect base for a hi-impact make-up look.
Relentless, all day wear. Lightweight hi-pigment coverage. Flawless transformation. Taken from the Superdrug website.

The bottle is just your standard glass bottle with a pump. It’s not too big and bulky so it’s easy to travel with. The only small downside to this would be the white lid, as you can see mines already a little bit grubby but that’s the whole point of makeup right?

Shade Range

This foundation has 12 shades, comparing that with other Maybelline shade ranges that is quite small. Now I’m not sure if they’re currently in the process of updating it, but there’s definitely not a shade for everyone. I use the shade 30 sand for when I’m fake tanned, but when I’m not tanned I’m the lightest shade, 03 true ivory. 30 sand matches my tan perfectly, and it isn’t pink under toned which I love, also it isn’t too orange.

Price & Size

It retails at £9.99 which I don’t think is bad at all considering how good the foundation is. Also Maybelline always have special offers on, for example buy 1 get 2nd half price. You get 30ml in the bottle, which is a standard size for foundation.

The Consistency

I think this may be the best foundation I’ve ever used coverage wise, it covers EVERYTHING. It’s definitely a full coverage foundation which is quite hard to find in the drugstore. It can also be built up without looking cakey. The finish of this foundation is matte, but it would work with all skin types as it isn’t drying. I apply mine with a brush, and it gives a flawless finish without it feeling heavy on the skin. Also with this foundation I barely have to powder my face, I have an oily t-zone so I have to powder regularly, but not with this foundation! This is definitely a perfect foundation if you’re going out out.

Overall Thoughts

This is definitely my new favourite foundation, it just works so well with my skin type and keeps my makeup looking flawless all day long. I’m currently looking to get a lighter shade to match my natural skin tone, but it’s sold out everywhere 😥 I will get it eventually! I honestly think it beats all of my over foundations, and even the MAC Studio Fix Fluid. If you want to invest in a full coverage foundation, but don’t want to spend an arm and leg, definitely pop into your local Superdrug and test this foundation, you will not be disappointed.

The Product in Use

And that’s the end of this review! I hoped you enjoyed reading, see you soon 😘

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think?

February Favourites

Not to be dramatic or anything, but where did February go?? One minute I was counting down the days until Brighton, next minute I’m back at work wishing I could go back to Brighton. Anyway, this months favourites is full of old favourites of mine that I’ve rediscovered. Enjoy reading!

Makeup Favourites

Maybelline Superstay 24HR Foundation

I am IN LOVE with this foundation, I think it may be my favourite foundation I’ve ever tried. It’s so full coverage, but it doesn’t look cakey or feel heavy on the skin which is looovely. I first bought this to match my fake tan shade for when I go out out, but I’m now investing in a lighter shade to match my natural skin tone. The only thing about this foundation is the shade range, it’s a bit crap. Although the other Maybelline foundations have had a revamp in terms of shades, so maybe this one is too? Let’s hope so!

Laura Mercier Face Illuminator – Devotion

I bought this in Brighton from Space.nk as a little treat for myself, and honestly it looks so pretty on the skin. First of all the way it looks in the pan is beautiful, also there’s a nice sized mirror in the compact. The actual product itself is a beautiful iridescent light gold, it makes the skin look so glowy and it keeps in place all day.

Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara

This was on offer a few weeks ago so I had to pick it up and try it. I wrote a little review in my post on Sunday just gone, read it here. This mascara is amazing, firstly it smells like coconuts, the packaging makes it easy to grip and the formula is so good. It lengthens the lashes, gives them volume and makes them super black. Also the brush on this is quite big, but not big enough to get it everywhere.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks

In Brighton I picked up a set of 8 of these for £42, which I think is amazing considering they are £17 each. I think this might be my favourite liquid lipstick formula, they are so bloody comfortable to wear, they aren’t drying at all and they stay in place all day. My favourite shades have to be Ludwig (a classic nude) and Lovecraft (a soft pink). I’ve got a full review going up soon on these so keep an eye out!

Zoeva 104 Buffer Brush

The boyf got me a Zoeva brush set for Valentine’s Day (thanks babes) and this has to be my favourite brush out of all of them. I needed a large buffer brush, and this one is perfect. It does an amazing job at blending my foundation out, super quick and makes my skin look flawless. Also the handle of the brush is beaaautiful 😍

Skincare Favourites

Olay Cleanser Tool

This got put into the clearance section at work so I had to grab it. This is basically a knock off Clarisonic. This is perfect for days where I want to deep clean my skin and get rid of any dead skin on my face. After I’ve used this my skin feels so clean and smooth, it’s the best little tool to have. I usually use this with my Liz Earle exfoliator or my Soap and Glory 3 in 1 cleanser.

Nip + Fab Bee Sting Cleansing Pads

I used to use the original cleansing pads, but then I run out. So I picked up these for £6 in Tk Maxx which was a bargain. These do the exact same job, but they leave a little stinging sensation on the face which makes it feel super clean. I tend to use these when I do my night time skincare routine to ensure I’ve got all my makeup off my face and neck.

Superdrug Vitamin C Serum & Origins Ginzing Moisturiser

I have been LOVING these 2 mixed. They make my skin feel so hydrated, and they make it look hydrated as well. Vitamin C is amazing for the skin so the serum on it’s own does wonders, then I apply the moisturiser on top. As it’s a gel formula it really hydrates the skin and makes it look super glowy. I always use these 2 at night time so my skin stays hydrated throughout the night.

Bodycare Favourites

Bondi Sands Gradual Everyday Tanner

I went through a stage where I was tanning every week, but it was getting a bit long scrubbing off old tan then reapplying. So I picked this up to see if it gave me a natural tan. I’ve been using it for about 2 weeks now, and I have to say I’m not as pale as I usually am. I’m hoping if I carry on using this up to summer I won’t be an actual ghost 😂 but this is a really good gradual tanner!

Soap and Glory Righteous Butter Body Cream

I got this in a set for Christmas, and it’s the best thing to shave your legs with. It can be used as a shower gel, a shaving cream and an in shower moisturiser. It really does make my skin feel so smooth after I’ve used it, and it makes shaving your legs super easy and leaves them so soft!

TV / YouTube Favourites

I’ve recently started rewatching Skins, I used to love this programme when I was in school and I used to watch it all the time. I haven’t watched it in years so I thought I’d rewatch it. My favourite seasons have to be 3 and 4.

Rachel Leary

I’ve been watching Rachel for years, and I just love her videos. I watch them religiously and I’m obsessed with her makeup tutorials 😍 she recently done a video where she follows a Jamie Genevieve tutorial, and it’s so funny.

Other Favourites

For Valentine’s Day the boyf and I took a little trip down to Brighton, and honestly it was the best few days ever. Despite the horrible weather, we powered through and done what we wanted to do. I wrote a full post on it, read it here.

That’s all my February favourites! I hope you enjoyed reading, see you soon 😘
